This is based on the famous computer game of LIFE, developed by John Conway while at Cambride University, UK. It was popularised by an article in Scientific American by Martin Gardiner in 1970. This simulation is created using the following algorithm:

  1. A grid is drawn and mirrored 4 times for symmetry.
  2. One quadrant is manipulated according to the following rules:
  3. Each quadrant is updated according to the results of updating only the one quadrant such that symmetry is maintained.
