- Mystery Meat Navigation -

This term was coined by Vincent Flanders of Web Pages That Suck and describes the practice of using a website navigation system where the action of the links is not made clear until you mouse over them. See the article on that site for a fuller description - he does a far better job than I could!
Basically, the problem is this: it's counter-intuitive. It's excellent where you want to make your website into a game of Memory, but as navigation it's terrible design. Here is what my home page navigation table could look like if I used Mystery Meat Navigation ... mouse over a hexagon to reveal where it goes, then click it to go there (that's also bad, having to explain what you have to do).
